dreaming of summer. Seeds in soil. strawberries and spinach already. more to come .
#fresh #fromearthtopotI have loved cooking from when I can remember. Sundays were those special days when my mother would let me experiment in her extremely bare kitchen, in Coimbatore, India, with new ingredients that we would go shopping for. I would come up with recipes in order to recreate different new foods that I had tasted outside of my home. I tried to make cakes in pressure cookers(we had no oven) and creatively use other utensils that she had lying around. Growing up in a vegetarian household also pushed my boundaries of experiment on what to use and what not to use. It was thrilling. I still remember my first success in recreating something I had tasted: Paneer Mutter Masala.
I was elated!
And my first terrible(x’mas) failure: Cheesecake without using eggs or graham cracker crust. Poor high school boyfriend’s parents!
Something felt right about that whole experience- yes! even the failures.
My sense of taste, smell, touch and sight felt content about providing that meal to my family. I have, since then, been drawn to the experience of cooking for others.
In my everyday life, I continue to find ways to strike a balance between the cerebral, the tangible and the emotional- and cooking always seems to do it for me. There is a science, art and a whole world of memories and feelings that cooking engulfs me in. I would be very honored to share and create those experiences for you .
I strive to live an organic and just lifestyle and therefore, I wish to use farmer grown organic produce whenever possible. I also would like to remain green and employ ways to remain eco-friendly. I hope you can join me in this idea and help me provide you with some flavorful creations of mine for your special days here in Chicago.
